The Black Phoebe (Fee-Bee)

The Black Foebe (Pronouced Fee-Bee) is a memeber of the flycatcher family of which there are around 400 members.... Thats right its not an exclusive club. Ther about the size of a sparrow. They as you've figured out they catch bugs. They catch them mostly in flight, which is the main reason they came on my radar. I love watching them fly off a limb and snatch a bug in flight. That and they always look dreesed for a party, as you can see below.
They are found near a water source most of the time and from what I have found will most likely stick around all year, but if it gets to cold they will move south for a bit. The last three photos on here is of one that had just had a bath. He let me get pretty close.
So thats what I know and now you know as well.....I'm hitting the road this weekend. I will hopefully get some good photos while I'm gone.

So I have finally taken the jump into retirement. My feet have pushed me into doing this, but I am ready. My last day at work was yesterday (at the time of writing this post) Today and the next few days will be sorting and packing. Then I will head for Oregon which will be my new home. I will be stopping by my brothers place for a few days. He has a project he wants some help with. I like working with him we get shit done as it should be. Then he and I will head to the new place to hang my hat. He knows all the cool spots down there to fish, and if its a good place to fish that means its a good place for wildlife.... Here There Be Dragons

So as some of you know I have moved to South western Oregon. Where I live there are tons of places to go for wildlife photos. I have become fond of taking Dragonfy pics and have been learning more about them. For one, they have remained pretty much unchanged for th last 320 million years. The only real change is their size. They went from having a Two foot wingspan to about a 3 inch wingspan. They are also thought to be the most effcient hunters on the planet with a seccess rate of 90 to 95%. What I am going to post here are photos of the Dragons and I will attempt to name them as best I can. Some maybe repeted only because the females of some of the spieces are hard to tell apart. So here we go.... This one is called a "Blue Dasher" and its a female. This one is the male. This one I see often, its a Common Whitetail Dragonfly. It has a wide body compared to the ones above. The Queen Has fallen, The passing of Grizzly 399

As the title states, the queen of the grizzlies, grizzly 399 has passed. She was struck by a car yesterday and did not survive. She was 28 years young, which is actually quite the advanced age for a Grizzly in the wild. I first photographed her in 2020 on my first ever trip to the greater Yellowstone area. She had 4 Cubs that year and I was lucky enough to catch her and the Cubs while they were still young. Over the years I made at least one trip a year to photograph her. I wasn't always successful, (She obviously didn't get the memo that i was coming over to see her.) My first trip to Yellowstone this year I was able to catch her and her Cub Spirit at the side of the road, which she was famous for doing. That was on my birthday and that day was the best day of wildlife photography ever.Here are the last photos I took of her.
