Beauty And The Beast

Thats right I have beauty and the beast in this post. I will do the beauty first, but please keep scrolling and see the beasts. I'll give you all the info I have on them as we go. Now the first "Beauty" was taken with the Canon R7 which has gotten a lot of bad press over its time in the market. Not all has been bad, but when you combine it with the 800mm canon lens it gets even more bad press. Well I took it one step further and added a 1.4x teleconverter to the mix. I know there are photographers that would scream at me for doing that. Well all I can say is.... Then become a pretter photographer. I will post Three photos that I have taken with this combo and I believe them to be some of the best photos I have ever taken. Not because of the subject, but because they are great photos.
The Butterfly above is called the Lorquins Admiral Butterfly. I actually don't know to much about it or any Butterfly for that matter. What I did find out it was named after a French naturalist named Pierre Joseph Michel Lorquin..... Try saying that Three times fast. I do know that it lives in the southwest part of Oregon as that is where I took the photo. This next photo will be another Butterfly. The Tiger Swallowtail. This has been my favorite Butterfly for as long as I can remember. Its the largest Butterfly that I have seen in the wild. It does come in some slight color variations from a dark Yellow to White I'm not sure if its a subspecies but I believe it is. Anywho here is the photo.
This last photo is of a Douglas Squirrel that was sticking its head out of a Aspin tree. I'm not a big fan of this guy. He took over a Hairy Woodpeckers nest. I like them way more that the Squirrel, but its a great shot none the less. Thats what I do, if I see something that I think would make a great photo, I take it. I'll photograph just about anything that moves, even if I don't particularly like it... Yes even the hated Starling, but it needs to be a male and in the right light. (Hey I have my standards)
And now for the Beast, Just one species this time, a face only a mother could love for sure.
In the first picture you can see that its eye is white, that a protective cover that goes over the eye when they are sticking their head in a carcass of an animal such as in this case it was a deer that had been hit by a car. Thats the reason I was able to get so close. They were hanging around above the deer which happened to get struck by a car and died at a Cemitary of all places. yep a tad bit creepy if you ask me. The Bird is a Turkey Vulture. In the spring they show up here in mass! In a short drive you could count twenty to fifty of them on any given day. But they serve a purpose. They can, and do eat any dead decaying animal. They have an acid in their system that is a kin to battery acid. No joke they can et bones, hooves all of it, even if its been dead for a week. All the stuff that would make us sick like Salmonella and Botulism are a walk in the park for them. So yes this post was Beauty and the Beast for sure. I do sell my photos, so if you are interested in any of my photos hit me up on facebook, it helps me keep the lights on and cameras in my hand. Thanks.
