The Queen Of The Grizzlies

Image
For the last Five years or so I have been making a trip to Yellowstone, Once or Twice a year. My first trip I wasn't having any luck finding a Grizzly to photograph. I desided that I would make a trip down into the Grand Teton National park where there it is said grizzlies are right on the side of the road. Well that was true and sure enough the first Grizzly I saw was none other than Grizzly 399. Still to this day one of my all time favorite photos. 399 and her Four Cubs. Let me give you a little history on this Bear. Now I'm not an expert on her and I'm not saying this is 100% fact. This is what I have learned and heard over the years on this Bear. I do how ever believe that it is all factual. She is the First Grizzly at least in this area that has had Four Cubs and raised them all to the age that they were sent out on their own. ( I think that only One is still alive now though) She has a Daughter (610) That has a home range next to her. and they someti...

My Big Day!

My big day, and it truely was. One it was my Birthday and it was also the best day of wildlife photography I have ever had. More bear than a man has the right to see in one day with the first one being The QUeen of the Grizlies #399 and her cub. I not only seen Bears though and I will give you a peak at what I did see, but first I have to show "The Tree" Now there is nothing really speical about this tree. What keeps me taking its picture is the fact that it looks like it is ouy of place. Its the only one like it on the mountain side. I have taken its picture every trip I've taken to Yellowstone. Maybe I'm nuts but I like it. I turned 64 yesterday and I spent it having the best day ever! I seen so much wildlife it took Three hours longer to get out of the park because everytime I turned a corner there seemed to be something there. But lets start with the first thing I seen that morning. I call it "The Urban Fox" This Fox lives i...

Raptors and Yellowstone

Well heck, I am planing on a trip to Yellowstone after all. I leave Sunday afternoon and will return on Friday or Saterday I haven't figured that part out yet as its not a big worry. The weather is looking kinda bad, but it could get better.... or it could get worse. Either way I am going as the draw I get when thinking about heading there is just to strong. I am going to be tent camping about Twenty miles from West Yellowstone. The place sounds really nice although I did read a few bad reviews. One complaind that there was no smoking in the camp grounds and another was upset that they had a pipe break and there was no water for a day. Not things I am going to worry about. Besides there is showers and coin-op laundry in West Yellowstone and in Grand Teton. Back to the weather, rain and snow are in the forcast for Monday and Tuesday. From what it says for now its a chance in the afternoon. I'm going to be trying for Wolf, Big Horned Sheep and Grizly 399. She is my favorit...

An over night test trip

I am heading out in 10 days on a camping/photo trip. I'm not 100% sure exactly where I'll be going but I know I will be camping. I love to camp and haven't really been doing a whole lot of it. I went and bought a new tent and a new camp stove so I wanted to go out and give it a try. I would hate to be out in the middle of nowhere and find out something doesn't work. I planed on camping over by Turnbull where I go for Moose photos. But the one spot that I liked dosen't let tents in there park. So I headed over to Potholes State Park. I got the spot I wanted too. It was in a corner, lots of trees for wind blockage and shade. So I set up camp. The wildlife at Turnbull was not the best. I did get some nice shots of some turkeys strutting there stuff. Then I got a shot of a Squirrel that I can't figure out exactly what kind it is. I had to get the shot through the windshield of the car so its not the best. The Goose in the to...
