First big trip of the year
So on Monday I will be heading out on my first photo trip of the year. I'll be heading to southren Oregon to visit my Brother and sister (in-law) and my best friend of 20 plus years. I'll only be there for a day or so. I'll try to get some better photos of the Screach Owls that nest at my brothers place, as the few I got are just a face sticking out of the nesting box. I only "plan" on staying there the first day, and a few hours the next morning before heading south west to Shady Cove where I will set up base camp if you will. From there I will be going to several places that I have in mind. One such place is Coos Bay Or. There I hope to get some pictures of the Elephant Seals that call that place home. As well as the Brown Pelican and a hoast of other shore birds. I am really wanting more pictures of critters with fur over ones with feathers. I have spent the winter with them and I'm ready for a change.
Not that I haven't seen furbbies, just that they are the same ones over and over. I mean just how mant cute Squirrel pics does one guy need to take in a span of a few months before it gets BORING. Now I have taken some really nice shots of the Owls, I never tire of them. Here are a few of my latest shots. There is the Great Horned Owl and the Burrowing Owls have made it back so theres a shot or two here as well.
I am taking all Three of my cameras and every lens I own (I may have to many lenses but one never knows what will pop up.) The Three main lenses I will be using are my EF 150-600mm 5.6-6.3 Sigma, my RF 100-400mm 5.6-8 Canon and my EF 70-200 F4 L Canon. I'll have one on each camera but will be able to switch them around as needed. (All but the RF 100-400 it will only work on my R6 mark ii and the R7). I will also have my 100-400mm 5.6-6.3 Sigma lens with me that I can use in low light over the Canon lens. But that lens is up for sale and it may not make the trip home with me.
Now all three cameras use the same battery so that makes it nice. I can toss a few extras in a pocket or the bag I'm using and I'm good to go. I'll be also using a battery grip on the R6 mark ii which takes two batteries. So the need to have more than a spare or two is needed. But there are options for after market batteries as long as you do your home work. Some don't play well with some cameras while others work just as good as the OE batteries. My 90D will do fine with any of them but the R7 and R6 Mark ii will act up. like the shutter speed will slow down.... Thats a no go for me so I make sure I get the right ones. Anyway one battery in each camera and then two for the battery grip and a spare for each. Then we have the chargers and cables, spare memorry cards, lens covers and caps and a hoast of other things and I think my car is full and I haven't even started to pack my cloths or my camping gear. I may end up camping if the shooting is good I'll want to stay over night in Coos Bay. I'll only camp if the weather is nice... there is always Hotels, but if I can camp I will.
This will be my last Blog post before I go, but I'll be posting while on my trip and I might even do a YouTube video while I'm at it.
I'll see you on the road.
