Gardiner/Yellowstone NP Day one
I arrived in Gardiner Montana around 1:30pm on Sunday. Check in time at the Hotel wasn't intil 4pm, so I headed out to Lamar vally. It was raining which I had figured it would be, what I didn't figure would be the lack of wildlife. Sure I seen about 20 Elk and they were real close, but as they live on the lawn at Mamoth hot springs that wasn't a big surprise. There were a few heards of Bison but they were way off in the distance. I managed to catch a few that came close to the road on my reurn trip though and got a few photos taken. (I'll post a couple down below.) I did how ever get some good shots of some Pronghorn Sheep. There was a small heard of about 6 Ewes and one Ram. I also did a couple slow motion videos of the Ram and I posted one to Failbook and I'll post the other one here. The one I'm posting here is a better video as it shows the fall colors in the background. So I'll do the video first then post a few photos.
Here are a few stills I took of the Pronghorn as well
As you can see in the following phots the Bull Elk is next to what looks like a house. Its an office at Mamoth hot springs. The Elk live there pretty much year around. They have figured out that the Wolves and Bear really don't like to hang with us Humans.
And now for the Bison, I'm going to be targeting them this morning. I have a shot that is on my bucket list and hopefully I will get it on this trip.
And now for the "Tree" I took a photo of this tree in July when I was here. It looks so out of place but in a good way. They are doing road work and you have to stop and wait right where this tree sits. I don't know how I will get photos of it in the future as there is no place to pull off the road. Maybe i"ll have to hike after parking but I will want to continue photographing this tree.
I'll be heading out in a couple hours, back to Lamar Vally its a good place to catch the Wolves in the morning. I'm hoping to also head out the far end of the vally and see some Moose. I'll try to post here every day so check back to see whats up.
