Trip to Turnbull National Wildlife #2 Part #1
On my second trip to Turnbull I was wanting photos of the Cow and twin Calf Moose that are there. Well that didn't happen but the trip wasn't a wash by any means. I seen no less (or more) than 4 Moose and was actually able to document the second Bull Moose in the park. Two trips and twice I found something they didn't know was there. Granted I found it two minutes before the park did, but still I found it first...Na na na boo boo. I also got photos of two new species for me I will post those photos below. There was a Third but I wasn't able to get a photo of it, but I'll look one up so you can see it. I seen more critters on this trip by far than the last. I drove the Auto loop 3 times as I did last time and I walked 3 of the trails. ( I only did two last trip) I talked to the same Ranger as I did last time, she is always helpful and willing to share any wildlife updates that she has. She also welcomes any and all news that you have to share with her about the park.I think she did get a little nervice when second the Bull Moose moved in a little close to me, she was a ways off. She never yelled out to me, but I'm sure she was releaved when I started backing away. I had moved up on a small hill to get a better view and I guess the Moose thought I wanted a close up. I'll explain more when the photo comes up.
For now let me post the two new critters I found yesterday.
This is the White breasted Nut Hatch, the largest of the Nut Hatches. I swear this thing thinks its a woodpecker. The one that is on the stump in front of the tree was acting like a woodpecker so much that I was thinking that I found me a new woodpecker.
Now I have yet to put a name to this squirrel but I'm sure one of you will know. There is a third one out there but I havent gotten a good enoigh look at it to even try to name it.
Now for the Moose, I was lucky enough to see 4 this time out. Two Cows and Two Bulls. One was the same Bull I saw last week but the secound... He was new. First I'll post the two Cows. Both were right on the side of the road. The second one was so comfortable with me being there she actually bedded down twenty feet from me and just looked at me. Ill post her photo's first, the last one will be her ready for her nap.
This is the second Cow, she was busy eating and didn't care I was there either.
She did't stop moving and I wasn't going to follow her just to get photo's. But I was happy that she was there. Now for the Bulls.
This is the same young Bull I photographed last week, but his antlers have grown to almost twice the size. (they're still small though) Now he didn't want his picture taken at all. This is the first time I had seen a Moose trot. I mean I have seen it in videos, but never live. They always seem to not care that you are there. For some reason yesterday he wasn't having any of it! Again I wasn't going to chase after him. I wasn't there to be a pest, I was a guest! Last week he gave me some awsome shots so I'm okay with him being camera shy this week.
Now for the new Bull, This guy was awesome. He let me take way to many photos and even came (to) close for a head shot. I'm going to post four or five of the best photos.I took like 100.
I have a ton more photos to post so this will be part #1
